Three Branches of Government

Legislative
-Headed by congress
-Includes house of representatives and the senate
-Make laws
-Can override the president’s veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses

Executive
-Headed by the president
-Carries out federal laws and suggests new ones
-In charge of foreign policy

Judicial
-Headed by the Supreme Court
-Supreme Court can veto laws that are viewed as unconstitutional



-Cases involving states’ rights
