Alaska encounter quite a few roadblocks during its journey to statehood. Many governmental figures didn’t see the economic potential in it, so they tried their hardest to stop it from becoming a state. Others said it would eventually join the union, but every part of it except for southeast wasn’t ready. Towards the end, a lot of people were in favor, but there was always that ONE GUY in either the house or the senate who JUST COULDN’T LET IT GO THROUGH. Alaskan statehood bills continued to be blocked until 1958 when the oh-so-intelligent white men running congress decided, what the hey, let’s let ‘em in.
